What a preventive visit includes
Every checkup at Althea Dentistry is unhurried and tailored to you. A typical visit includes:
- Professional cleaning to remove plaque and hardened tartar that brushing and flossing can’t reach.
- A thorough exam of your teeth, gums, bite and existing dental work.
- Digital X-rays when needed, which use less radiation than traditional film and let us show you exactly what we see.
- Oral cancer screening — a quick, painless check of the tissues of your mouth, tongue and throat.
- Personalized home-care tips so you know what to focus on between visits.
Sealants and protection for every age
Dental sealants are thin protective coatings painted onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth, where most cavities in children and teens begin. They are quick to apply, require no drilling and can protect teeth for years. We also offer guidance for adults on protecting enamel, managing sensitivity and keeping gums healthy.
Why regular checkups matter
Cavities and gum disease often develop without pain until they are advanced. Seeing us every six months — or on the schedule we recommend for you — lets us spot early warning signs and keep treatment small. Good oral health is also linked to your overall health, which is why we treat every checkup as an investment in your well-being.
Most dental insurance plans cover preventive visits at little or no cost. See the insurance plans we accept or call us and we’ll check your benefits for you.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I have a dental cleaning?
Most patients do well with a cleaning and exam every six months. If you have a history of gum disease or frequent cavities, we may recommend visits more often.
Are dental X-rays safe?
Yes. We use digital X-rays, which require significantly less radiation than older film X-rays, and we only take images when they help us diagnose or plan your care.
Do you see the whole family?
Absolutely. We welcome patients of all ages, so parents and kids can often be seen on the same day.
